Current Goals for Music Education in our Local Schools:
We are currently working to achieve two goals for our youth. Our first goal is to bring a Grammy In The Schools Career Day to the Napa Valley during the 2011-12 school year. This unique program organized by the Grammy Foundation™ will give our high school juniors and seniors the chance to hear about career paths in the music industry from stage mangers, sound and production supervisors, business managers and the music talent. The presentations, given by members of the Grammy Foundation who are currently working in the industry, will give our soon-to-graduate high school students guidance for further education and experience as they plan their futures.
The second program that NOTES for EDUCATION™ is working on will give all Napa Valley kindergarten students the chance to fall in love with music. Our goal is to introduce the kids to music by providing each of them a harmonica and a lesson in the classroom so that they can take their music home and share it! Any child can easily pick up a harmonica and continue to play alone or create their own band. This program is ambitious and can only start with a few of the elementary schools in the Napa Valley but our goal is to include every child in the Napa Valley school system every year. NOTES for EDUCATION™ was founded when Frank Rogers (Nashville Record Producer, owner Sea Galye Music Publishing and Nashville songwriter) and Debi Cali (Baldacci Family Vineyards General Manager and a Napa Valley Winemaker) began to see the similarities between their industries. Often the names of the individuals who write the music or make the wine are unknown and it is only the products of their passion that receive recognition. With the intention of highlighting the entire process of collaboration that is required within these industries and with respect to the inherent necessity to reach out to our communities, NOTES was formed to support arts education for today’s youth so that we continue to develop the artists of tomorrow. A decision was made to organize events that bring together accomplished songwriters, winemakers, authors and visual artists to raise funds to support arts and literacy programs for the children of our communities. The Board members of Notes are accomplished professionals in the industries of Music, Arts and Winemaking.
CHILDREN BENEFIT as the proceeds from Nashville In Napa will directly effect youth in Nashville and Napa through non-profit organizations chosen by the Board of NOTES for EDUCATION™. For 2010, the donations were presented to the Nashville chapter of NARAS for Grammy In The Schools (http://www.grammy.com/grammy_foundation/) and The Arts Council of Napa Valley (http://www.artscouncilnapavalley.org/).
